Watch this short video (watch it once only, and don't research it). Before you move on, decide in your mind if this video is for real, or is it a satire/ fake/joke. Text Dave your answer by Mon night April 20. 11:59 PM. There will be a question on this video in the "Baptism" forum.
.2 Daniel Dominguez video : Matthew 1-4 (by Wed pm, respond to one of your classmates by Fri pm. )

verview:
As we continue pursuing what it means that Jesus' Kingdom is the core message, is HERE, is upside-down , and that greatness is evidenced in humility and servanthood, it is appropriate to ask how Christian-based media models and portrays Kingdom values. Watching and critiquing a half-hour of Christian television will be the heart of this lesson. (Note: this exercise was inspired by the sarcastic tattooed pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber's experience, which you can read about here if you like .)
Instructions
Review class 2 on the Kingdom of God as Core Message, especially 'Upside Down Kingdom" reading assigned this week , pp. 17-24 HERE, Make a few .notes about what the Kingdom is. Remember this is the very core message of Jesus.
a)Watch and (ten minutes total) of a program about one "televangelist," Peter Popoff. Post a couple sentences response on what watching those clips made you say and how it made you feel.
b) Now watch a half-hour of Christian TV ( ideally starting at quarter till the hour, or quarter after, so you get parts of two shows).. Try TBN (Trinity Broadcasting), GOD TV, or Daystar, for example. If you don't have easy access to cable TV, most Christian TV networks can be watched online. (Old sermons/shows ör current church broadcasts on YouTube/websites don't count. The idea is something on TV (not a facebook stream) this week. It might be good to do this with a family member or friend, particularly if they are not religious or Christian.
Some examples, with links:
Do feel free to be critical and analytical, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Is there anything that you think might make Jesus uncomfortable or upset? Anything amiss? Is the image of the Kingdom upside-down enough?
In the comments below, write about your experience:
Be sure to include:
- What shows/network you watched
- What view of Jesus, church, and Kingdom did the TV shows represent/portray?
- How was the Bible used? If used, was it in a prooftexting, VERSE-itis kind of way or in a way that caught the context and the Three Worlds?
- Is the image of the Kingdom upside-down enough? (quote Kraybill directly at least twice, at least once from pages 17-24 ) .Be critical and analytical, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Is there anything that you think might make Jesus uncomfortable or upset? Anything amiss? Kraybill reading is HERE :

Important: Do not forget this part, this is the heart of the assignment and we will need
the results in Zoom: Post a running count as to how many times the word "Kingdom" (as in Kingdom of God/Kingdom of heaven) is used in your show/s.
- Read and re-read Luke chapter 10-- especially the "Good Samaritan" parable in 10: 25-37-- in your class Bible and translation.
